We’re delighted to announced our new ‘Stretching the Canvas’ programme in collaboration with Visual Arts Ireland. Over the past few months, we’ve been working tremendously hard behind the scenes to develop a new programme that will encourage students to get involved with visual arts. Together with Visual Arts, we will be sponsoring Rockport School‘s Art department! It will provide a great opportunity for students to learn valuable and transferable skills that they can take with them throughout their education and career.
Stretching the Canvas
The programme, Stretching the Canvas, will run over the academic year allowing students to explore a range of art making techniques including; sculpting, drawing, photography, media and more. Students will be exposed to real life art studios where they can first-hand see projects in action as they work towards their end of year assignment.
Recognised international artists will also lend their time to the programme to offer advice and share experiences. In addition to this mentors from the AICA Ireland (The International Association of Art Critics – Ireland Branch) will teach Rockport’s pupils vital tips such as; how to write art statements, handle critic and how to exhibit their work.
Brian Nixon, Director of Standard Utilities is excited to be involved with the prestigious programme as they “are constantly focused on making Northern Ireland a better place for visual artists to live and work in!”
Stretching the Canvas will host an open exhibit late April 2017, where parents and supporters of Rockport School can enjoy an art panel discussion, on top of students showcasing their end of year art project. Watch this space we say!
